Sunak will accelerate the transition to renewable energy

When the climate summit in Egypt begins on Monday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will pledge to accelerate the UK’s transition to renewable energy, according to a Reuters report.

Sunak had actually decided not to participate in the COP27 UN climate conference, but changed his mind after the plan received heavy criticism from both environmental activists and political opponents.

– Despicable manipulation

At the climate summit, he is scheduled to tell attending politicians and business leaders that the UK is ready to work with allies to accelerate the transition to greener sources of energy.

– Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its heinous manipulation of energy prices only reinforces the urgency of ending our dependence on fossil fuels. We need to go further and faster to move to renewable energy and I want to ensure that the UK is at the forefront of this global movement,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Proud of Charles

Britain hosted last year’s climate summit in Glasgow, COP26, chaired by then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Sunak will urge world leaders to live up to the promises they made then, Reuters writes.

In addition, the newly elected Prime Minister will organize meetings on energy security, green technology and environmental protection, as well as lead discussions on forests and nature.

Sunak also praised King Charles for his “far-sighted leadership” in the fight against climate change after the British monarch hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for international actors, including US climate change envoy John Kerry.
