The “crown” is back – criticism is pouring in

The series, which premiered in 2016, received one increase in views shortly after death.

On Thursday, the first trailer for the fifth season arrived:

At the beginning of the video, a voice is heard reading that the royal family is in crisis.

Crisis in the royal family

The action took place in the 90s where the royal family was in the spotlight, when in 1992 it was discovered that Prince Charles and Diana separated before they officially divorced in 1996.

The plot description from Netflix states that Prince Charles, played by Dominic West, “pressured his mother to get permission to divorce Diana”.

This week, the streaming company has received criticism from former UK Prime Minister John Major. She came out in the British media and responded to rumors that the conversation between her and then Prince Charles would be part of the story in season five.

Some hinted that there must be talk that the prince wanted the Major’s support to get the queen to abdicate.

In a statement to CNN, Mayor said the series was nonsense that had no other purpose than to create a “false and dramatic impression”.

A spokesperson for Major explained that the former politician had never collaborated with the show’s creators, stating that none of the rumored scenes were accurate:

– They are pure and simple fiction, reproduce CNN of the statement.

I think the border is blurry

Actress Judi Dench also shared her thoughts on the drama. In a letter to the newspaper Time he gave support to the former prime minister.

– Sir John Major is not alone in his concerns regarding the final season of “The Crown”, he begins his letter with.

Furthermore, the actor wrote that his portrayal would be “inaccurate and hurtful”, and believes that it seems the drama series is taking greater liberties in blurring the line between fiction and historical accuracy, the closer the action is to the present.

– I am concerned that a large number of viewers, especially foreigners, may interpret the fictional series as historically correct, writes Dench.

The actor must have close ties to King Charles and Queen Camilla, according to the report BBC. The latter and Dench star together in radio program in 2020.

Dench also reacted to the alleged actions surrounding the prince and queen, which he described as cruel and dangerous to royal institutions.

In conclusion, Dench wrote that series creators should include a disclaimer at the beginning of each episode.

Netflix has responded to the criticism by saying that the series is a fictional drama that looks at what can happen behind closed doors for a significant period of time for the royal family.

– Time that has been well researched and documented by journalists, biographers and historians, said a spokeswoman for the streaming company that Time has been reproduced.
