“The Crown” is back – the criticism is already pouring in

Filming of the sixth and final season of the Netflix drama has been paused after the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced on September 8. The same thing happened when the longest-serving monarch was buried, report Deadlines.

The series, which premiered in 2016, experienced a spike in viewership shortly after his death.

On Thursday, the first trailer for season five arrived:

At the start of the video, a voice reads out that the royal family is in crisis.

Crisis in the royal family

The action takes place in the 90s where the royal family was in the spotlight, when it was discovered in 1992 that Prince Charles and Diana separated before they officially divorced in 1996.

The plot description from Netflix states that Prince Charles, played by Dominic West, “pressures his mother to get permission to divorce Diana”.

Like in the third season, the actors have been replaced from the previous season. Elizabeth Imelda Staunton, known from “Harry Potter”, plays Queen Elizabeth. Actress Elizabeth Debicki of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” stars as Diana.

Heading towards Netflix

This week, the streaming company came under fire from former UK Prime Minister John Major. She came out in the British media and responded to rumors that a conversation between her and then-Prince Charles would become part of the story in season five.

Some hint that there must be talk that the prince wants Major’s support to get the queen to abdicate.

In a statement to CNN, Major said the series was a trash can that served no other purpose than to create a “false, dramatic feel”.

A spokesman for Major made it clear that the former politician had never collaborated with the show’s creators, stating that none of the rumored scenes were accurate:

– They are pure and simple fiction, reproduce CNN of the statement.

I think the border is blurred

Actress Judi Dench also shared her thoughts on the drama. In letters to newspapers Time he provided support to the former prime minister.

– Sir John Major is not alone in his concerns regarding the final season of “The Crown”, he begins the letter.

Additionally, the actor wrote that his portrayal would be “inaccurate and painful”, and believed that it appears the drama series is taking greater liberties in blurring the lines between fiction and historical accuracy the closer the action has come to date.

– I fear that a large number of viewers, especially foreign ones, may interpret the fictional series as historically correct, wrote Dench.

The actor must have had a close relationship with King Charles and Queen Camilla, according to the report BBC. The latter and Dench starred together in a radio program in 2020.

Dench also reacted to the alleged actions surrounding the prince and queen, which he described as cruel and dangerous to the institution of royalty.

In closing, Dench wrote that series creators should include a disclaimer at the start of each episode.

Netflix responded to the criticism by saying that the series is a fictional drama that looks at what could have happened behind closed doors for a significant period of time for the royal family.

– Time that has been well researched and documented by journalists, biographers, and historians, said a spokesperson for the streaming company Time has been reproduced.
