For the first time in 12 years, The Monkees will now, apart from their guitarist, play 10 concerts in the UK, reports Guardian. In connection with the band’s 45th anniversary they are back on the road.
Among other things, the band will play at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and complies MTV the three promised to play the most famous songs for fans.
“This concert is for fans of all ages. Stay tuned and listen to all our hits, lots of energy and a brilliant and fun night,” the trio promised.
TV group
This American pop group was founded in 1966 on the initiative of television producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider for the NBC company who wanted to make a television series about a band.
After advertising in the media to attract participants, what is considered by many to be the world’s first boy band was formed for television screens.
I don’t play alone
The series tells the story of four boys and their quest to become rock stars, and was clearly inspired by the Beatles film “A Hard Day’s Night”.
The band was supposed to be America’s answer to the Beatles, but critics were unimpressed with the group, who did not initially play their own instruments; they just sing.
However, TV viewers who liked the pop music of the four of them also liked it.
Its sales exceed those of the Stones and The Beatles
With songs like “Daydream Believer”, “I`ma Believer” and “Last Train to Clarksville”, the band topped the singles charts in the 60s. In 1967 they sold more records than The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. This TV series also won two Emmy awards in the same year.
After the series was discontinued in 1968, the band recorded the psychedelic film “Head” and then became a touring band before officially disbanding in 1971.
The band, consisting of vocalist Davy Jones, drummer Micky Dolenz, bassist Peter Tork and guitarist Michael Nesmith, has reunited several times, but usually without Nesmith.
