Beijing, May 19 (.).- The President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, said today in a meeting with former British Prime Minister Liz Truss that trade and investment agreements will help deepen bilateral ties.
Tsai received this Friday the Truss, who is visiting Taipei this week, and stressed to conservative representatives that such a deal requires joint efforts between the two countries, the official CNA news agency reported.
In addition, the Taiwanese president argued that the world’s democracies should “act in solidarity” in the face of expanding authoritarianism, and assured that Taiwan looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom in areas related to supply chain resilience, cybersecurity, and science. new knowledge and technology.
Meanwhile, Truss stressed the importance of strengthening economic ties and positive relations between free democracies facing an “increasing struggle” against autocracies.
“The UK is very clear about the need to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” the politician said, adding that “we must ensure that Taiwan is able to defend itself.”
In addition, he insisted on his proposal to form an “economic NATO” in which free and democratic nations “cooperate to confront the coercion of authoritarian regimes”, an idea he has defended in a speech delivered this week in Taipei.
