The UK Meteorological Office announced this Tuesday, July 19th, that it recorded the highest temperature on record in its territory.
The office reported on its website that the temperature reached 40.3C in the town of Coningsby, Lincolnshire and 40.2C at Heathrow airport. The previous record was 38.7°C in Cambridge in 2019.
Temperatures are expected to increase further throughout the day. There are predictions that they will reach 41 ºC, the entity indicated.
“With temperatures continuing to rise into the afternoon, we’ll have to wait and see what the new record actually looks like. New temperature records may also be set for Wales and Scotland.”
He added that extreme red heat warnings were still in effect in various parts of the UK.

Authorities are advising Britons to stay indoors during the peak of the heatwave on Tuesday between 11am and 4pm, and stay hydrated.
“With today’s extreme heat there is a risk of thunderstorms, especially over south west and then north east England,” the UK weather office said.
Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France and other European countries have experienced one of the most intense heatwaves in their history since last week.
