The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and British broadcaster the BBC confirmed that there will be a Eurovision Song Contest in the UK in 2023.
The BBC was responsible for organizing the singing competition, one of them said pers conference from Eurovision.
– We are very grateful that the BBC has agreed to host Eurovision in 2023, said the competition’s chief executive, Martin Österdahl, in a press release.
– We know that next year’s competition will showcase the creativity and skills of one of Europe’s most experienced broadcasters, while ensuring that this year’s winner, Ukraine, is celebrated and represented throughout the event.
Cooperation
Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC will work closely with the BBC to ensure there will be a Ukrainian element in next year’s event.
Ukraine, which triumphed at Eurovision in May this year, will automatically qualify for next year’s final alongside five pre-qualifying countries, including Britain.
A bidding competition for UK cities wishing to host will begin next week, according to a press release. Logos reflecting Eurovision’s unique situation will also be announced later, and will represent the UK and Ukraine.
Security
Host cities will be announced in the coming months. Previously, London, Edinburgh, Brighton, Harrogate and Birmingham had hosted this competition.
The EBU announced earlier this summer that the security situation in Ukraine meant the country would not be able to host its own Eurovision Song Contest until next year. The country was invaded by Russia on February 24 this year.
It had long been expected that England would be the one to host on behalf of Ukraine, as the country finished second in this year’s competition, and has also hosted on behalf of other countries several times before.
