The multi-award winning Volvo XC40 has been honored for another aspect of its performance, being named Best Car Tow at the 2022 Auto Trader New Car Awards.

These awards are defined by the real-world views and experience of over 150,000 British drivers who rate their cars against key ownership and lifestyle criteria, making the XC40 a true consumer champion.

Announcing the award in London, Auto Trader Editorial Director Erin Baker said: “Safety, comfort and quality are key attributes for consumers looking for the best tow truck, and it was the Volvo XC40 that checked all three boxes this year. offers premium interiors, great technology, small footprint and all-important towing capacity.”

Owners who responded to the award survey also praised the XC40 for its smooth driving performance and safety features, which Auto Trader recognizes as “Volvo’s hallmark.”

The XC40 may be the most compact member of Volvo’s SUV lineup, but it doesn’t lack muscle. For the petrol version, the towing capacity of the braked trailer is extended to 2,100 kg for the 197 hp all-wheel drive B4 model. The new generation of pure electric Recharge XC40s are also excellent towing vehicles, with the 408hp all-wheel drive Recharge Twin capable of towing a braked caravan or trailer up to 1,800kg.

While you might expect this level of performance from an SUV, Volvo enhances the appeal with the XC40’s attractive Scandinavian design, assurance provided by extensive safety provisions and intuitive technologies for connectivity, comfort, entertainment and on-board information.

The towing capacity of the XC40 is offset by ample luggage space, with 452 liters in the trunk with all seats on top, or up to 1,328 liters with the rear seats folded. You can add even more with a variety of load-carrying accessories, including a roof box (providing up to 500 liters of extra storage space) and bike and ski racks.
