Trans people born male are allowed to compete with female boxers – Documents

The USA Boxing organization will allow transgender people born male to compete against female boxers under certain conditions. It reports Daily Mail.

USA Boxing has adopted a “transgender policy” that will allow some male boxers to fight in women’s categories starting in 2024.

The body, which oversees amateur boxing and the US Olympics, will allow transgender athletes to compete under certain conditions.

While boxers under 18 will still have to compete according to their biological birth gender, transgender adults will be allowed to fight in the gender category of their choice.

They must meet certain criteria, including declaring their new gender identity, completing gender reassignment surgery and regular hormone testing.

Boxers who have transitioned from male to female must demonstrate that their total serum testosterone levels have been below 5 nmol/L for at least 48 months prior to competition. Their total testosterone levels must remain below 5 nmol/L throughout the desired qualifying period in order to compete in the women’s category.

USA Boxing announced the policy on Friday, saying in a statement: “The goal of this policy is to provide fairness and safety for all boxers.”

USA Boxing took the initiative to introduce the policy after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided in 2021 that each sport and its governing body have a responsibility to determine how athletes harm others.
