A truck driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a truck hangs partially over a cliff in Porsgrunn.

A truck is said to have overturned at a construction area in Langangen in Porsgrunn. The front of the truck was partially hanging free-fall over the cliff.

Police received reports of the incident before 7pm on Monday.

The driver is conscious and is being treated by paramedics. It is currently unclear what happened, police said earlier.

– Police are working to get a general idea of ​​the sequence of events, but it appears only the truck driver was involved, operations manager Erik Ullhaug Olsen told VG.

First aid was given to the driver, who is a man in his 70s.

– Now the driver is being worked on. He is said to have received crush injuries, but it is not known how it happened, Olsen said.

The air ambulance was on its way to the crash site, but had to be canceled due to weather conditions, police wrote on Twitter. The driver was instead transported to the emergency department at Skien Hospital by ambulance. The extent of the damage is currently unknown.

Police said at 8:10 p.m. that there was a crane at the scene to secure the truck along with several heavy fire engines.

At 22:23, police wrote on Twitter that the truck had been found and would be investigated further.

The E18 was closed in connection with the crash, but is now reopening. Long queues were reported at the site, according to the report FOOT.

The police informed the newspapers that they considered this a work accident and we will inform the Norwegian Labor Inspectorate.

Senior communications adviser at Nye veier, Imi Vegge, confirmed that an incident had occurred, but was unable to comment further on the matter at this time.

At 9:36pm, Vegge wrote in an SMS to VG that they were “assisting the police and emergency services on the spot”.

Nye veier is a client for the development of the new Rugtvedt-Langangen E18.
