UK prohibits using the phone in any way while driving

The United Kingdom announced that any use of mobile phones while driving is illegal. Details released by the UK Department of Transport specifically note that all smartphone usage while driving a car you will face punishment 200 pounds sterling and six points on your driver’s license.

It is currently illegal to send text message you make a call when driving. However, all use of the phone will be considered illegal from next year, including use for playing games or taking photos among other apps.

The only exceptions are when using the phone for contactless payments, such as at teller windows or toll roads, handsfree or bluetooth use, and navigation applications, such as Waze, as long as the phone is on the base.

no phone in car

In the United Kingdom, you will no longer be able to take photos or videos, scroll through music playlists, or capture any creature from Pokemon GO.

Drivers will not be able to use smartphones even if their car is not moving. The government will review Highway Code to explain that standing still, as at a traffic light or in traffic, is still considered driving.

“Too many deaths and injuries occur while mobile phones are in the hand. By making it easier to prosecute people who illegally use their phones behind the wheel, we are ensuring the law enters the 21st century while better protecting all road users.”, said Grant Shapps, UK Transport Secretary.
