Rule: Meetings will be held at the country house of the British Prime Minister Checkers on Monday and in Downing Street on Tuesday. Johnson is expected to use the meeting to focus on protecting the Nordics and Baltics from potential attacks from Russia, according to Sky News.
According to channel sources on Downing Street, Johnson will also discuss European security in a broader perspective. Reuters reported that the meeting will also discuss the conduct of several military exercises in the North Atlantic and Baltic Seas, the war in Ukraine, and energy security.
“Europe’s security has been shaken by Russia’s attack on Ukraine, and together with our partners, we will act to ensure that we are stronger and more united than ever,” Johnson said in a statement.
The countries participating in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) are Norway, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Sweden. It is a flexible force that can be deployed quickly when needed and contribute together with NATO.
The last time the countries at the JEF met was on 23 February. In a meeting attended by Norwegian Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen (Sp), they then agreed to carry out a number of exercises and activities in the direct territory of JEF countries, at sea, on land and in the air.
