The cancellations on the penultimate day of the year have caused chaos in London and Paris and left thousands of passengers stranded in major cities on both sides of the English Channel.
As many as 41 trains were canceled on Saturday.
The reason for the cancellation was that the two tunnels between Ebbsfleet station in Kent and St. Pancras in London was flooded. All trains on lines to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam were cancelled, NTB wrote.
– Due to flooding in one of the tunnels on the high-speed line near London, we have had to cancel all our trains to and from London on Saturday 30 December. Please do not go to the station unless you have changed your ticket to the departing train, the company urged.
On Saturday evening, Eurostar said it would resume departures to all destinations on Sunday. However, they warned that there could be delays and overcrowding at train stations, the BBC wrote.
Tourism editor at The Independent newspaper, Simon Calder, spoke about the situation at St Pancras station to BBC Breakfast Saturday morning.
– It’s really terrible here. Some went home to car and hoped to drive to Dover and find a ferry, he said.
Calder was also able to say that many were “in tears because trips to Disney were cancelled”, wrote Sky News.
