He wrote that himself in a letter on Twitter late Tuesday.
– As you may know, there is an ongoing complaint process against me in relation to text messages I have sent to colleagues. I cooperated in the process and have apologized to anyone who received the message, Williamson wrote.
Williamson does not have a portfolio in the ministerial role he has now left.
Former caning leader in the Conservative Party, Wendy Morton, has sent out an official warning about a series of insulting and threatening text messages Williamson allegedly sent her, NTB reports.
The background is said to be allegations that Morton tried to bar lawmakers outside of Liz Truss’ circle from attending the Queen’s funeral, the news agency reported.
– Clear my name
Former Secretary of Defense Williamson wrote on Twitter that other charges had also been brought against him after the aforementioned text message became known.
– I have therefore decided to withdraw from government work so that I can cooperate in the ongoing process and clear my name, he wrote.
According to Sky News Williamson, among other things, messaged a colleague to “jump out of the window”.
The Guardian newspaper also reported that the outgoing politician allegedly asked an associate to “cut his throat” when he was defense minister.
The Tory politician was Defense Minister between 2017 and 2019.
Support from Sunak
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak commented on the withdrawal late Tuesday, the Reuters news agency reports.
– I accept your resignation. I support your choice to withdraw and understand why you made that choice, Sunak said, according to the news agency.
