The government accommodates the migrants on barges with a capacity of 500 people, with the aim of reducing the bill for hosting asylum seekers in hotels.
The 39 asylum seekers who with the British launched the Bibby Stockholm prison barge with a capacity of half a thousand people did not last long.
They had to be lowered from the three-story structure with 222 cabins after samples of legionella were found in the ship’s water system, according to the Interior Ministry.
“The health and well-being of those on board is our top priority. Environmental samples from the water system at Bibby Stockholm showed levels of Legionella bacteria that warrant further investigation,” an Interior Ministry spokesperson told media today.
“Following up on these results, the Ministry of Home Affairs has collaborated with the UKHSA (Health and Safety Agency) and followed their advice in line with the long-standing public health process,” he added.
The suitors leave this Monday and it hasn’t been five days yet.
The first migrants, all men, began accommodation on Monday, and more are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, as part of a government policy to cut back on the high costs of hosting asylum seekers in hotels.
