US senators have proposed a bill to keep the use of artificial intelligence (AI) transparent and ensure the country remains competitive in new technologies.
While AI has immeasurable potential to serve humanity, it also has the potential to cause destruction at the hands of bad actors. Therefore, governments around the world are looking for ways to regulate AI technology.
AI bill to maintain transparency
According to Reuters, US senator is serving two bipartisan AI bills. The first bill focuses on the transparency of the use of artificial intelligence.
Democratic Senator Gary Peters he co-sponsored this bill with Republican Senators Mike Braun and James Lankford.
If the United States government uses AI to interact with the public, The bill proposed to make mandatory that the government provides appropriate disclosure.
The AI bill also mandates putting humans in the driver’s seat when making important decisions.
Bill wanted to provide a competitive advantage in new technology
As well as, Senators Michael Bennett and Mark Warner Democrats and Republican Senator Todd Young introduced another AI bill to ensure competitiveness in technology.
The plan involves setting up an office tasked with monitoring America’s competitiveness in the new technology sector.
AI has been in the spotlight this year after launch of chatbots such as ChatGPT, Midjourney and Bard. Therefore, countries have become very proactive in regulating technology.
