Santo Domingo.- Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, lead this Wednesday with Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, doctor Franklin García Fermín, act of start of delivery 10,000 national and international scholarships to benefit an equal number of young Dominicans from different parts of the country, so that they can achieve or extend their professional training.
Giving the keynote address for the event which took place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Volleyball Pavilion, Peña said that since the beginning of this administration, efforts have been goal-oriented substantially increase the number of young people and adults with the necessary technical and professional skillsso that they can access, under equal conditions, work appropriate to their skill level, at a decent wage and with a window open to more opportunities in the future.
“Today we are making official deliveries of 10,000 scholarships to the same number of beneficiaries, men and women who, starting today, are starting to walk a new path that takes them to the future they dream of, and who has the ability in their hands. to add more to this country, for its growth and development”highlight the vice president.
On his side, Minister García Fermín assured that the facilities provided to students are carried out through a process of total transparency, as stipulated in Decision number 549-21issued by President Luis Abinader, institutionalizing National System of Education Support Scholarships and Credits.
He pointed out that, with the creation of this system, led by MESCYT, “The management of scholarships at home and abroad is one unit and the provision of these benefits is carried out transparently”.
“Thus, the dissolution in which the State is managed by providing scholarships from various Ministries and Directorate Generals is eliminated,” determined by Garcia Fermin.
He explained, for the awarding of national scholarships this year, invitations were opened from January 31 to February 22 and during that period they were registered digitally. 80,647 applicantswhere 64.5% were women and 35.5% were men, “a relationship in which the strong presence of Dominican women is verified”.

García Fermín points out that those interested in obtaining a national scholarship are from 42 higher education institutions a country that offers 563 study programs on campuses located in almost all regions of the nation.
“For the award of international scholarships, we have involved 65 universities from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, United States of America, Spain, France, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, UK, and Switzerland”he underlined.
“These are the universities that have an agreement with our Ministry and, therefore, they gave us an offer of 586 academic programs according to the needs of the country and with the regulations laid down by the above-mentioned decree,” Garcia Fermin reassured.
The event was also attended by José Ignacio Paliza, Minister of Presidential Administration; Minister of Youth, Rafael Féliz; the person in charge of the National Scholarship, Lanny Portoreal; in charge of International Scholarships, Roselia Pérez, general director of OGTIC, Pedro Quezada, and vice-chancellor of the Extension of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Rosalía Sosa.
