WhatsApp brings avatar creation from selfies to Europe – Technology

MADRID, 4 (Portaltic/EP)

WhatsApp has expanded a tool that lets you create a personalized avatar from a photo to Europe and the UK, to offer users a different way to express themselves in conversations.

Avatars have been around in the instant messaging app Meta for some time, where users have the option to create them manually to then use these virtual representations in profile photos or as stickers.

Manually, the application allows you to customize the avatar to the user’s image, choosing skin tone, hairstyle, color, shape and width of the face. Now, it is also possible to create an avatar from a selfie, a function that Meta started enabling in Europe and the UK this Monday, as reported in a press release.

This way, users only need to take a photo. From there, the app will display suggested avatars so users can choose one and personalize it “even more” so that it “represents” them better.

So far, and according to WhatsApp, more than a billion avatars have been created. The purpose of avatars is for users to “better express themselves” in conversations, as avatars allow great customization and can transmit different feelings or emotions like ‘stickers’.
