HIROshima, Japan, May 21 (Yonhap) — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Saturday expressed their hope of expanding cooperation in nuclear energy, technology and other fields, the presidential office said.

Yoon and Sunak meet on the sidelines Group of Seven Summit (G-7)in Hiroshima, and discussed various issues, including bilateral relations, strengthening practical cooperation, international affairs, and cooperation at the world level, according to presidential spokesman Lee Do-woon.

Yoon said he found his first summit with Sunak meaningful and asked for the prime minister’s interest in expanding bilateral nuclear energy cooperation, building digital partnerships, and strengthening cooperation in cyber security.

Sunak expressed his strong support, saying he looked forward to close cooperation with South Korea in energy, including nuclear, as well as defense and semiconductors, according to Lee.

He also called for deepening ties between the two countries on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the start of the exchange, which is being celebrated this year, noting that he plans to make South Korea the most important partner in the Asia-Pacific region, proposing to draw up a detailed plan and a South Korea-British cooperation agreement as soon as possible. .

Yoon responded by calling for close communication between the two countries’ national economic and security teams, Lee said.
