20 Colombian startups that have raised the most funding in the last decade

In recent years, the country has seen an explosion in the number of entrepreneurs and start-ups, which are transforming the local business landscape and competing in global markets.

(In two years, startup accelerators have almost doubled.)

Since some time agoColombia has shown accelerated growth in its startup ecosystem, with an annual growth rate of 28% in the last five years.

This has to do with the fact that the country has been recognized as one of the best places in Latin America to build and grow startups. Moreover, the country has been successful in attracting foreign investment and specialized human talent, which is a great opportunity for local startups.

According to Eli David, CEO of StartupBlink, “In 2023, there are 4 countries that top the ease of doing business for startups. They are a country to be celebrated. Despite their overall innovation output rating, this government’s policy is overwhelmingly pro-business. If you are a businessman in one of these countries, you are very lucky, because the government is on your side.”

The countries for 2023 are (in ranking order): United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Singapore and Colombia.

(‘Startup’ that stands out in 6 leading sectors).

Against this backdrop, KPMG Colombia, together with EAFIT – Ongoing, CESA, ANDI del Futuro, iNNpulsa, Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, Cali Chamber of Commerce and Cartagena Chamber of Commerce, prepared the Colombia Tech Report 2022-2023 study in which x-rays the development of startups .

The report also provides an analysis of which technology companies are raising the most money for developing their operations.

It is highlighted there that between 2013 and 2023, Colombian startups raised a total of USD 4.621 million. 2021, globally, has been a record year for startups. The Colombian startup raised over USD 1.5 billion in a total of 89 deals (2021 was also a record year for number of deals).

Moreover, in the period studied, the Colombian ecosystem has been the third most successful in fundraising in Latin America, behind only Brazil (USD 18.9 billion) and Mexico (USD 6.05 billion), and ahead of the strong ecosystem such as Argentina and Chile. , which is an extraordinary indicator, regarding the strength of the investment climate for startups in the country.

(Bogotá Entrepreneurship, with 91% national capital).

Although it is very different when Rappi’s investment round is excluded, the ecosystem still shows, a significant amount of investment in recent years (especially 2021 and 2022), and the drop between these two years has been much less, excluding shipping giants.

The main rounds in recent years have been raised by Habi, in his Series B and C for USD 100 million and USD 200 million respectively, Frubana in his Series C for USD 100 million in 2021, and Tül with Series B of USD 181 million. Trends indicate that 2023 will be a difficult year for the global ecosystem (and by extension, the Colombian ecosystem), so this large increase in volume is not expected.
