The South Korean army denounced this Tuesday, January 11, that its neighbor to the North had fired a suspected ballistic missile, Yonhap News Agency reported.
South Korea’s military detected the launch from an area on land early Tuesday into the East Sea.
“In order to obtain additional information, the intelligence authorities of South Korea and the United States are in the process of conducting a detailed analysis,” the agency said, citing the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The South Korean authorities ensure that their country’s Army, along with the US Army, is closely monitoring the movements of the North Korean Army.
The agency also quoted an official from South Korea’s Unification Ministry expressing deep regret over the launch and asking Pyongyang to respond to its calls for dialogue.

“North Korea should choose cooperation over actions that go against efforts to build peace on the Korean Peninsula, such as the latest missile launch, at this critical time to stabilize the political situation around the peninsula.” the official said, citing the earlier January 5 launch of a supersonic missile by North Korea.
Following the test of a supersonic missile developed by Pyongyang, the United States, Britain, France, Ireland, Albania and Japan issued a joint statement on Monday, ahead of a United Nations Security Council meeting to discuss the move, calling on North Korea to end its nuclear program and missile tests. the ballistics.
US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said in a statement that the launch was a clear violation of various Security Council resolutions.
He added that the South Korean government is making military investments at the expense of the welfare of its nation.
“The people of North Korea continue to suffer under a strict authoritarian regime and an increasingly serious humanitarian crisis,” said Thomas-Greenfield.
He called on North Korea to participate in dialogue towards the goal of complete denuclearization in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
North Korea first confirmed in October that it had developed a hypersonic missile and tested it the same month.
Hypersonic missiles typically fly five times faster than the speed of sound, or 6,125 kilometers per hour, giving the enemy little time to respond.
Tensions have risen on the Korean peninsula after Pyongyang and Seoul tested ballistic missiles in October 2021.
