Embiid scored 50 points, equaled a career high, and had 12 rebounds in just 27 minutes while Jokic scored a triple-double to register a season-high 49 points in Denver’s overtime win over the Clippers.
The day, which offered a 13-game banquet, ended in a 111-104 loss to the depressed Los Angeles Lakers against the Indiana Pacers.
Early in the game, the Sixers beat the Orlando Magic 123-110 thanks to an appearance from Embiid, who was looking to replace Jokic as league MVP.
To date, no one has managed at least 50 points and 10 rebounds in less game time than Cameroon since the introduction of the shot clock in 1954.
At the age of 27, Embiid supported the Sixers in a campaign that was marked by the rebellion of another character, Australian Ben Simmons, who had yet to make his debut by demanding a transfer to another franchise.
“I feel really good,” Embiid said after the crash. “Just playing my game, dominating like I’ve been doing all season.”
Embiid scored 23 points in the third quarter alone and added 47 before half-time, where he was only on the field for a minute and a half due to a wide margin on the scoreboard.
In that time he added three free throws, missing the fourth shot by which he was able to break his best scoring record, which was set in February 2021.
Meanwhile, Jokic scored 49 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in 41 minutes of play in a 130-128 win over the Clippers in extra time.
The Serbian, who is one point away from equaling his career goal scoring record, was also the protagonist in the last possession with a score of 127.
Double-tagged, Jokic sent a spectacular pass across the Los Angeles area into the hands of Aaron Gordon, who nailed a match-winning three-pointer from a corner with 1.7 seconds remaining.
– LeBron hits another milestone –
The Lakers are still not back on track and suffered a tough 111-104 loss at home to the 13th-ranked Indiana Pacers in the East.
LeBron James had 30 points and 12 rebounds while Russell Westbrook put in a mediocre performance with 14 and 2 and watched the final four minutes off the bench.
Led by Caris LeVert (30 points and 8 rebounds), the Pacers came from behind in the last quarter and implemented their fourth loss to the Lakers in the last five games.
Prior to the duel, Los Angeles coach Frank Vogel made sure he didn’t feel his position was in danger, as franchise sources told US media.
The result was “very frustrating but it’s been a long season and we believe in the group,” Vogel said after the game. “It’s a disappointing loss, we thought we would win.”
“The coaching staff has been very good. He put us in a position to succeed and then it was up to us to do it”, defended LeBron James, who linked the loss to LeVert’s unstoppable 22-point streak in the fourth quarter.
At 37 years old, ‘King James’ surpassed 10,000 rebounds in his career on Wednesday and is the only player in history to also have more than 30,000 points and 9,000 assists.
Another foreign NBA star, Luka Doncic, scored 41 points, plus 14 rebounds and 7 assists in the Dallas Mavericks’ 102-98 win over the Toronto Raptors.
The Slovenian base was decisive, with 5 points in the last two minutes, for Dallas to add to nine wins in the last 10 games.
In turn, the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Memphis Grizzlies 126-114 with 33 points and 15 rebounds from Greece’s Giannis Antetokounmpo.
