BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China’s digital economy to reach 7.1 trillion US dollars in 2021, according to the global digital economy white paper.
China’s digital economy accounts for more than 18 percent of the accumulated total of the top 47 countries included in the white paper and ranks second only to the United States, according to a paper released by the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technology on Friday.
The digital economy is the main force driving China’s economic development. The white paper shows that from 2012 to 2021, China’s digital economy’s average growth rate was 15.9 percent, and the country’s digital economy’s share of GDP increased from 20.9 percent to 39 percent, 0.8 percent.

According to the study, Germany, the UK and the United States rank in the top three in terms of their share of the digital economy in GDP, all exceeding 65 percent.
Meanwhile, in terms of growth rate, Norway’s digital economy recorded a year-on-year increase of 34.4 percent, the fastest globally.
