After 10 on Monday 8 August, a dead man was found in the sea outside Tyholmen, the center of Arendal.

– The man has not yet been identified, but it is natural to see this in relation to the man who was reported missing on Saturday 6 August, Hægeland’s operations manager said in a press release.

The missing man’s family has been notified.

On Saturday evening August 6 at 9 p.m., police received a report of concern that a man did not show up for an appointment on Saturday morning. The official missing persons report was received on Saturday evening and the search was conducted on Sunday 7 August, and the search resumed on Monday.

Last seen in town

Endre Gjendem, 23 years old, was last seen at 2:15 am on a Saturday night at the Madam Reiersen nightclub in Arendal.

Since the man was reported missing, police have been searching the area. Roads from the nightclub to the homes of the missing were also checked. A rescue boat and a police boat have searched the area.

On Sunday afternoon, police notified the public that the 23-year-old man was missing and a massive search operation was launched on Sunday 17:25, wrote Agderposten.

Is it diving?

On Monday morning, police decided that the fire department should send divers.

Police then received help from the fire service to dive outside Tyholmen.

Tyholmen is a peninsula from the center of Arendal. The pub where the 23-year-old was last seen is located there.

So this is where the discovery of the dead is made.

Police told Dagbladet that there was no indication that the 23-year-old wanted to disappear. There is also no indication that a crime has been committed.

– We don’t have any interesting information in any direction. There is no reason to believe that anything punishable has happened or anything to show that he wants to disappear, Hægeland’s operations manager told Dagbladet.

Widely searched

The fire brigade in Arendal had planned a diving drill for Monday, and after consulting the police, they moved the drill to Tyholmen.

On Sunday, a thorough search was carried out in the center of Arendal and covered the most relevant areas, police said.

More than 50 people took part in the search for the 23-year-old man who went missing on Sunday night. Both the police, the Red Cross, Norwegian People’s Aid, Norwegian rescue dogs, the rescue ship Inge Steensland and private individuals, according to Agderposten, participated in the search operation.
