Apple rolls out self-service repair in Europe

Until recently, ordinary consumers had to go to an authorized Apple repair shop, if e.g. Expensive iPhone camera or screen must break.

But last year Apple was surprised by the news that starting early in 2022 the company would allow customers who feel able to repair their own iPhone 12 or iPhone 13. This includes the ability to buy genuine parts directly from Apple as well as access to original tools and user manuals.

Initially, the so-called Self-Service Repair program was opened only to American users, but now self-service repair is available in eight European countries, including Sweden.

Repair guides and Apple genuine parts and tools can be ordered through Apple Self-Service Repair Store. Customers who wish to perform their own repairs can perform many of the most common repairs for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models and Mac laptops with Apple chips, Apple wrote in a press release.

The Self-Service Repair Shop provides access to more than 200 individual parts and tools as well as repair guides.

Apple offers a tool kit rental for EUR 59.95 so customers who don’t want to buy a tool for a one-time repair still have access to these professional repair tools. These can be rented for a week, and shipped to customers free of charge.
