Credit to Sinatra

Among other things, the artist is responsible for such hits as “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”.

He was often praised by other musicians, but the warmest tributes came from Bennett’s friend and mentor, Frank Sinatra.

– I put all my money into Tony Bennett to be the best singer in the business. He excites me when I see him. He touched me. She is a singer who understands what her composers had in mind and may have contributed more, Sinatra told Life magazine in 1965.

The world’s oldest artist

Not only did he outlive most other musicians of his generation, Bennett also found new fans and collaborated with younger artists.

In 2014, when Bennett was 88 years old, he broke his own record for the world’s oldest active artist with the album “Cheek to Cheek”, which topped the Billboard 200 chart. The album was a collaboration with pop artist Lady Gaga.

Other popular collaborations are with Amy Winehouse, who died aged 27 in 2011, and Carrie Underwood.
