Remembering our call in favor of freedom, democracy and the rule of law, the former presidents of IDEA decided to take this opportunity to express – once again – our strong support for the candidacy of María Corina Machado for president. Venezuela.

We have done so after exemplary primaries with the participation of more than two and a half million Venezuelans in which María Corina Machado achieved an overwhelming victory, achieving more than 92% of the vote.

We ask the guarantors of the agreement between the opposition and the Maduro Government, the President of the United States, the Prime Ministers of Canada and the United Kingdom, and the President of the European Council, to respectfully request their actions in response to this. statements made by senior representatives of the Maduro dictatorship that they do not accept the results of the opposition primaries, that they will prosecute the organizers and that they will not allow the candidacy of María Corina despite the commitment expressly set out in the Barbados Constitution to accept opposition candidates in the presidential elections. We are given hope by the statement by White House Latin American Adviser Juan González who stated that the Venezuelan government must accept María Corina’s candidacy this November or the sanctions imposed by the US against her will be reimposed.

In this IDEA VIII Presidential Dialogue we express our support to the end for María Corina Machado with an image that expresses the reality:
