Center party leader Annie Lööf targeted by assassins – VG

According to the prosecution, Annie Lööf, leader of the Swedish Center Party, was the real target of the man who stabbed a woman to death in Gotland this summer.

Annie Lööf, leader of the Swedish Center Party, was the target of the man who stabbed a woman to death during Swedish Almedal Week in Gotland in July.

This was stated by the public prosecutor Henrik Olin Swedish radio Thursday.

A 64-year-old woman was stabbed and killed by a 32-year-old man as party leader Annie Lööf was due to hold a press conference at a political event at Visby in Gotland in early July.

The 32-year-old has confessed and is in custody and charged under the terrorism section.

Previously, it had been mentioned that the man had likely targeted the 64-year-old woman and that the murder was premeditated. But on Thursday, Olin stated that Annie Lööf was the intended target of the perpetrators.

The accused had been active in the neo-Nazi group Nordiska motsandsrörelsen (NMR) for several years, but according to the prosecutor’s office, this was not the reason why the killing was considered an act of terrorism.

Rather, it was because they believed he was out to harm Swedish society and suspected that he was planning to kill several people.

Annie Lööf said she was shaken.

– It is clear that this shocked and affected me. But hate must never win, Lööf wrote on Twitter.
