Complete confusion: – Taken out of thin air

The case concerns Mrs Gardervei’s development project in Romerike.

To make the center of Fetsund more accessible it was decided to build a new road between Støvin and the center of Fetsund.

The road was completed on June 12, 2020, but what exactly it will be called has long been an unanswered question, he wrote. Romeriks Blad. According to the paper, the road is listed under three different names respectively in the Yellow Pages, the Mapping Authority and on signs for about 1.3 kilometers long.

Kjell Gjære (75) lives near the new road, who has been involved in the project and describes himself as a local patriot.

– I finally trampled there. During development, the road was called Nye Gardervei, which is understandably the name of the project, but I think it should be given a better name, he told Dagbladet.

– Does not make sense

However, when he searched on norgeskart.no, he got a shock.

– The street was suddenly called Karlsrudveien, taken completely out of thin air, he said.

Karlsrudveien is also found on the east side of Glomma, according to Gjære.

– And it’s not true that there should be two Karlsrudveier in the municipality of Lillestrøm.

Gjære therefore contacted the Mapping Authority, and it wasn’t long before the name of the road section disappeared from the map, he said.

Moments later, a sign appeared along the road with “Nye Gardervei”, he said.

– I think it’s a bad name. How long is a new road? asked the 75-year-old man.

Got suspicious

Then it “got worse”, and he wrote to the municipality and asked for a decision, Gjære said. However, he never received an answer, he said.

According to Gjære, the city government also never gave an answer to the name proposal it submitted: Støvinveien.

– The first new road goes through Støvingårdene and the side road is already called Støvinåsveien, so I think it’s a worthy proposal, he said.

Gjære told Romerikes Blad that he suspected that a naming decision was never made for the road, and thus did not actually have a name.

– Did not reach the goal

And his suspicions turned out to be true, the newspaper wrote.

– No, no official decision has been made here yet, Jane Aastad Avestad, head of Surveys and management in the municipality of Lillestrøm, emphasized to Romerikes Blad.

He further said that none of the named names had been approved in the Central City Register of Names. Because there is no person whose address is directly connected to the road, until now it has not been prioritized by the city government.

– We are considering various alternatives that we have not agreed on, said Aastad Alvestad.

– Where did the collision occur?

Gjære told Dagbladet that he understood that the name of the street had not been prioritized, but also believed that it was strange that the municipality could not give it a name.

– Even remote cabins in Hutaheiti without a road connection are required to have a street address, he said and added:

– Another important point is that the address is used as a description of the location for an accident, for example. If two cars collide there, where does the collision occur?

– What do you think about the fact that the name doesn’t seem to take priority?

– I think it just boiled. At the same time, it was a big deal when they changed street names in light of merging cities, so I was under the impression it was culturally important. So it’s strange that it’s being ignored now. The city government has worked hard to create this street, but it’s clearly not important enough to deserve a name.
