President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that the Deer Park refinery generated a profit for the Federal Government of $400 million.
In his morning conference, López Obrador explained that his government had made the decision to buy this year the corresponding part of the Shell Oil Company, a company from which the refinery located in Texas, United States, was purchased.
“I also take this opportunity to inform you that the decision has been made to purchase Shell’s share of the Deer Park refinery and it already belongs to the Nation. Do you know how many uses it has had since it was purchased? 400 million dollars. This year (Shell’s share) is paid,” he said.
López Obrador recalls that negotiations to acquire Deer Park began in mid-2020, when the pandemic crisis affecting the oil sector began.
On 24 May 2021, an agreement to purchase Deer Park shares from Shell was announced.
Deer Park has a crude oil processing capacity of 340,000 barrels per day and “can process heavy and light crude without producing fuel oil,” Pemex said.
When purchased, the refinery produced around 110 thousand barrels per day (Mbps) of gasoline, 90 Mbpd of diesel, and 25 Mbpd of jet fuel, in addition to other products. RB
