Zoo manager Doc Antle denounced Netflix’s spin-off documentary Tiger King, calling it “stupid, perverted and distorted.”
Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story is a three-part series that “unveils the truth” about the owner of Myrtle Beach Safari as witnesses come to tell his disturbing story of the exploitation and bullying that put him at the top of the food chain. . .’
“A lifelong showman, Doc Antle has built a distinguished career on stage and has attracted fans along the way,” the summary reads.
But behind his eccentric and animal-loving appearance lies a predator far more dangerous than his beloved big cat and a man darker than any of his Tiger King counterparts.
Antle, whose real name is Mahamayavi Bhagawan Antle, blew up the film in a statement he shared with Metro.co.uk.
“Netflix is once again engaged in tabloid fiction-based documentary fantasy: Tiger King ‘A Doc Antle Story,'” it began.
“This is one of Eric Goode’s silly, twisted, distorted stories about half-truths and lots of lies in my life 25 or 35 years ago.
‘The story is loosely tied by the producers of Netflix, which is always a fact… no! They created a small fog tale which they described as a fifth grade hurricane.
Antle continued, “They have brought together various colorful second and third tier characters from my long lost past, all trying to tell a story that never happened.
“Here at Myrtle Beach Safari, we manage the Ritz Carlton Wildlife Refuge, one of the best in the world. We have an amazing staff, most of whom are family members who have lived here for over 20-25 years.
He decided: ‘If you want the truth, come and experience this for yourself, talk to us and REALLY get to know us. We want you. Peace and love to Netflix and bless your heart!’
Antle featured heavily in the original Tiger King series, as the zoo offers visitors the opportunity to interact with lively exotic animals.
But the documentary also explores other aspects of his life, including accusations of not taking good care of animals.
He has previously criticized his role in the series, saying in a video interview, “This is not a documentary.
“This is a cruel and outrageous ride on a TV show produced to create a drama that ties you into the mad train crash feud between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic.”
Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story arrives in the UK on Friday 10 December at 8pm
