– We and the fire service were at the opera and were looking for a dog that had fallen into the water, reported the operations manager in the Oslo police district Gjermund Stokkli.

Firefighters found the dog underwater. It went unnoticed, and life-saving first aid was now being administered, they said shortly thereafter.

It was an acquaintance of the dog owner who was walking in the area near the opera when the dog fell into the water.

– It’s rare for us to experience this here, and usually the dogs manage to swim if they fall into the water, Stokkli told TV 2.

The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital in Ensjø, the 110 center reported.

Life could not be saved, even though resuscitation was attempted.

“Unfortunately, the dog died from drowning,” police in Oslo reported at a quarter past ten on Wednesday morning.

The police have taken care of the person in charge of the dog, he wrote in a message. When TV 2 asked, he explained that they were just looking after the concerned people and entertaining them. This was an accident and not a crime, and only an investigative case was opened.

Dog owners were also notified.

Stokkli told TV 2 that it is very rare for dogs to die this way in the area. Usually, dogs can swim, and very rarely do the police and fire department have to be called to help in such cases.

But this time it ended in opera tragedy.
