The reason for the removal was that the 1975 episode contained racist language. The episode, titled “The Germans”, is one of several TV and film productions that have been removed from streaming services following demonstrations and protests following the death of George Floyd.

Among those who criticized the decision to remove was comedian John Cleese, who played the lead role in the episode. In a twitter message he wrote that there are two ways to make fun of human behavior.

The “special class hotel”, called “Fawlty Towers” in the original, was last year named the best British commissioner of all time.
