Four interesting names for the island

Amazing international bouquet confirmed today

Today, ya add four names to us who want to please the audience who are curious about music in August. Hip-hop breakthrough Little Simz, blue desert comet Mdou Moctar, student Eno Fred again .. and Turkish-Dutch Altin Gün were confirmed today.

SMALL SIMZ (United Kingdom)

The first mixtapes came in 2010 and 2011, and since then he has grown to become one of the most important voices in British hip hop. Audiences grew with Gray Area’s third album of 2019, and the foundations were laid for last year’s big break with the sequel Sometimes I Might Be Introverted. Not only did it enter an impressive fourth place in the UK, but interest spread across Europe. Shout out! thought it was the album of the year, while Guardian and paste thought it deserved a spot in the top five. Also in the office yes, Sometimes I Might Be Introverted has become one of the big favorites. Little Simz has been on our radar since he played Island Night in 2015.

The album was very well received by the music media and left a larger audience opening their ears. This year he followed Afrique Victime, with a more energetic and exotic guitar playing. Artists from Niger mix domestic inspiration with fun psychedelic rock. Popular media such as the New York Times, Pitchfork and The Guardian thought he had released one of the strongest albums of 2021.

Altin Gün was started by Turkish and Dutch musicians in Amsterdam. Based on their own mix of psychedelic rock and Turkish folk music, they are gaining increasing attention on both sides of the Atlantic. They toured the United States with Tame Impala in 2019. As the pandemic shuts down concert life, they will be playing at some of the biggest and most important festivals in the United States. Now they are ready to continue the growing confidence of the crowd. The island has been working on getting Altin Gün into the program for several years, but due to the pandemic, we never reached our goal of announcing it, until now.

FRED AGAIN.. (English)

Fred again.. has one or more fingers in much of what has happened in British music in recent years. He is an award-winning songwriter, remixer, artist and producer. He has living legend Brian Eno as his musical mentor.

If you don’t know Fred that well yet, you’re probably familiar with Fred Gibson’s many collaborations. Stormzy, The xx, Brittany Howard, Ellie Goulding, Burna Boy, Roots Manuva, FKA Twigs, Stefflon Don and AJ Tracey are just a few of those he’s worked with, and some of the songs have become big hits. In addition to a number of releases with others, he has released two digital albums Actual Life (2020) and Actual Life 2 (2021).
