Notice to the Finnmark Red Cross: Isolated people lack food and medicine

Unusual Red Cross campaign numbers – highest in 15 years

The number of actions the Red Cross has carried out so far is the highest since 2008.

The Red Cross is asking residents and visitors in Troms, Finnmark and parts of Nordland to abandon the mountain treks, as the avalanche risk remains significant.

– The approach to Easter was sadly marked by death in an avalanche in Troms. We hope there will be no more serious accidents now, Jarle Bjørge Øverland deputy chairman of the national council for the Red Cross Relief Corps said in a press release.

Good weather is being reported in Troms and Finnmark, but avalanche risk remains significant with a danger level of 3 on the warning service varsom. no.

The large amount of snow and unstable snow cover means that more avalanches are likely to occur.

– We sincerely hope that the people will remain calm until the avalanche danger ends and will not allow themselves to be lured into the mountains by the good weather. The message from Saturday about leaving mountain travel behind is just as strong today, said Øverland.

The Easter Red Cross Center registered 31 missions from Friday to Saturday, mostly injuries on the ski slopes and retrieval missions. In addition, efforts are under way in Troms regarding avalanches.

The number of missions over the Palm weekend is by far the highest recorded since 2008. Last year, there were 13 acts in the same period.

– It’s been a busy weekend for hundreds of volunteers who have participated in both search and rescue work, treatment of damage to exit areas and the transportation of people who need assistance, said Øverland.
