Ozzy Osbourne reflects on how young bands opening big shows should be treated

When talking about the world famous artist who is very humble, without a doubt we have to mention Ozzy Osbourne. In 2017, the heavy metal legend demonstrated his simplicity in an interview for Metal Hammer where he talks about taking a younger group on tour and why there shouldn’t be room for ego.

“For every tour, even now, I’m not one of those people who read primers to support the band,” he explained (via harder). “I’m not saying, ‘You can’t be there or do that.’ I saw it like a show, it’s not about being on ‘Stage A’ or ‘Stage B’, it’s just a damn show. It’s better to be nice than to be a jerk.”

Even when black sabbath did their last UK tour that year, they chose California outfits Rival’s Son as his opening number and Ozzy, he thought, made sure to maintain his touring modus operandi for those historic dates too.

“The band we had on this last tour, Rival Sons, was a good group,” he said. “I always greet them and tell them that if they need anything, just ask us. They don’t know what we’re going to be like. Back in the old days, headliners turned on the lights for their support numbers. [para tratar de sabotearlos] and all that kind of bullshit. I do not like it. If you can’t handle this, get off that damn stage.”

Just treat them like humans! Otherwise, you’ll end up with a war and the tour would already be a pretty big battle without it. Just because you’re an opener, doesn’t mean you’re not important. I remember when we toured with Kiss and it was our death. The whole audience is made up! But it’s fun, and if it’s not fun, don’t do it. If you don’t like this show, get a day job!”
