Riviera Maya leads Cancun in occupancy percentage

During the first quarter of 2023, hotel occupancy in Mexico showed encouraging results, especially in beach tourism destinations.

According to Datatur data, the average occupancy of hotels in 70 tourist destinations is 60.5%, while in beach resorts the average is 71.7%.

This figure increased significantly by 9% compared to the same period the previous year which reached 62.7%.

In particular, he highlighted Riviera Mayawhere Akumal and Playacar achieved a higher occupancy percentage than Cancun, which is a contrast to the previous situation.

Akumal achieved an impressive 87.6% occupancy, followed closely by Playacar with 86.6%.

Other destinations such as Cabo San Lucas, Nuevo Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta also outpaced Cancun, recording occupancy of 84.5%, 84.4% and 83.6% respectively.

Regarding tourist arrivals, the Ministry of Tourism (Sector) led by Miguel Torruco reported that during the same period the cities received a total of 10.8 million tourists in hotel rooms, while the beach center received 9 million tourists.

In total, Mexico received 19.8 million tourists during January to March, of which 13.9 million were nationals and 6 million were foreigners.

National tourists represent 69.9% of the total, while foreign tourists account for 30.1%.

Among the countries from which international tourists visit Mexico in the first three months of the year, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Argentina, Great Britain and Spain stand out the most.

This data reflects the importance and attractiveness that Mexico continues to have as a tourist destination for both national and international travelers.
