Seven cities in the country included in the ‘startup’ index

Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2023, which reveals current x-rays of the global entrepreneurial sector across 1,000 cities and 100 countries including seven Colombian cities.

This report was created in collaboration with global data partners such as Crunchbase, SEMRush, UNAIDS, Meetup and more than 100 governments around the world.

However, according to the report, Bogotá rose from 5th to 3rd place in the regional index (Latin America), and from 70th to 65th place worldwide.

The nation’s capital makes use of cities such as Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires (Argentina), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Monterrey (Mexico). In addition, other Colombian cities also feature prominently in the regional index, such as Medellín, which ranks 9th, and Cali, which ranks 17th.

“Colombia’s startup ecosystem is an important engine for the country’s economy, with various initiatives to support entrepreneurship at both the national and municipal levels,” the report says.

Similarly, in the global rankings, Barranquilla’s notable increases, such as the entry of new Colombian cities to the 1,000 list as This is the case for Manizales, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Cartagena, Armenia, Popayán and Villavicencio.

Nicolás Uribe Rueda, president of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB), said that this news shows the efforts of the entire Bogotá ecosystem in supporting entrepreneurs.

“We are getting closer to achieving what we wanted to do a few years ago. making Bogota the entrepreneurial capital of Latin America. From CCB we will continue to work to promote entrepreneurial activity in the Bogotá Region and make it number one in the region”, added Uribe Rueda.

Globally, the Top 20 by country is integrated as follows. The United States came in first, followed by Great Britain, then Israel, Canada in fourth place and Sweden in the top five positions.

In the following positions are: Singapore, Germany, France, Australia, Netherlands, Switzerland, China, Finland, Estonia, Spain, Ireland, Lithuania, Japan, Denmark and South Korea.

It is noteworthy that it appears in the Top 50: Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina. Meanwhile, countries like Uruguay, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama stand out in the Top 100.
