Carlos Marín, Spanish singer and member of Il Divo, has died at the age of 53, the band announced on its official Twitter account.
“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our friend and partner Carlos Marin has passed away. His friends, family and fans will miss him. There will never be another voice or spirit like Carlos,” the tweet read.
Marín was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Manchester (England), intubated and in a coma.
As a result, Primer Beat Producciones announced the postponement to 15 June 2022 of the concert to be held at the Coliseum in A Coruña on 22 December.
Il Divo was founded by the famous Simon Cowell, himself of One Direction, after imagining that an all-male lyrical quartet would have the possibility to cover mystical songs.
Marín, who had forged a previous career as an actor in musicals such as “Les Miserables” or “Beauty and the Beast”, joined the project in 2003, with Urs Bühler, Sébastien Izambard and David Miller.
Together they have released nine studio albums to date, from the self-titled “Il Divo” (2004) to the most recent “For Once In My Life: A Celebration of Motown” (2021), with which they have managed to sell almost 40 million copies worldwide.
Alone, last year he released a solo album titled “Portrait” in which he dared to cover “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, among other hits.
