Health: A British woman is now receiving special care for the viral illness dengue fever – also called the hemorrhagic crime of Congolese fever, criminal fever or Central Asian hemorrhagic fever, reports Dagbladet.

This potentially fatal viral disease is transmitted to humans through fleas and pets.

It’s only been proven in England twice before, according to Security.

The woman, who is now receiving treatment at the Royal Free Hospital in London, had traveled in Central Asia, the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) wrote.

30 percent of them die within the second week of infection.

Bleeding from body orifices

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) writes that viral infection causes characteristic symptoms with heavy bleeding and high mortality.

“The disease progresses rapidly with fever, muscle aches, headache, dizziness, eye pain and photophobia. Subsequent symptoms are abdominal pain, mental reactions and bleeding under the skin and from various openings of the body”, he said on the FHI website.

“Hemorrhagic crime fever was first described during a major outbreak on the Crimean peninsula in 1944 and in 1956 in Congo. The virus was isolated in the mid-1960s”, writes FHI.
