Eurovision 2023 postcards will feature 111 locations between the UK, Ukraine and participating countries

This year’s postcards will visit locations in the UK, Ukraine and participating countries, showing how the competition continues to be ‘United for Music’. Designed to introduce audiences to each participating show, this year’s acclaimed postcard will use pioneering drone technology and 360-degree cameras to transport viewers to the two host countries and other participating countries.

In each postcard, three places in each country are linked by the same theme: parks, castles, street art, harbors, colorful buildings, beaches, rivers, lakes, etc. Among the 37 postcards, 111 different locations will be featured, making this year’s most varied and busy creative concept.

Windfall Films was assigned to the project after a competitive bid to produce it and teamed up with Ukrainian film production company 23/32 Films, which arranged the shooting and obtained an aerial filming license for the Ukrainian side. For the portion of the postcards in which each participating country was filmed, local production teams were used whenever possible. Each postcard is set to music from a composition by Dmytro Shurov, a Kyiv-based Ukrainian musician and composer.

Rachel Ashdown, the BBC’s lead commissioner for Eurovision 2023, said: “The creative concept of the postcards is the perfect way to introduce each show to the 160 million people watching worldwide, and I can’t wait for them to see it.” the public will see them when they are broadcast in the semifinals and grand finals. Apart from England, Ukraine and participating countries being united by music, viewers will be surprised to see what else unites us as well.”

Sasha Cherniavskyi, Executive Producer at 23/32 Films, added: “We are delighted to be involved in this project and to show that shooting in Ukraine is still possible at all levels of difficulty. This year’s Eurovision, although it doesn’t take place in Ukraine because of the conflict, our country will be at the center of it.”
