New coronavirus variant discovered in UK

The new variant is named XE and according to a report from the World Health Organization (WHO), was first discovered in the UK at the end of January. So far, about 600 cases have been found as of March 29, which corresponds to 1 percent of the analyzed sample. Several cases were also found in Thailand.

The new variant is a mixture of two known variants, namely omicron, BA1 and BA2. There is no evidence that it is more dangerous than other varieties, but according to the WHO, it can be 10 percent more infectious than BA2.
