“Portugal welcomes Brazil’s invitation to participate in the G20, which translates into permanent accompaniment to the work of the group of twenty of the world’s largest economies,” said the executive, in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE).

Brazil, which currently serves as president of the G20, has invited Portugal and Angola, as well as other countries, to observe the organization.

In a statement, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry reminded that “historically, the G20 presidency invited countries that are not members of the group and international organizations to participate in meetings that fit their calendar of events.”

Apart from Portugal and Angola, the Brazilian presidency was invited by Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Nigeria, Norway and Singapore.

During Brazil’s chairmanship of the G20, which runs until November 30, 2024, Portugal, along with other invited countries, will participate “fully in the work of this important international platform for political-economic dialogue and coordination,” according to the Portuguese. executive.

“Portugal returns to the priorities set by the G20 presidency, in particular not regarding social inclusion and the fight against inequality, to drive poverty; or to combat climate change and sustainable development; but also for the reform of international institutions”, This is mentioned in the MNE note.

For other countries, Brazil was also invited by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), World Bank (BIRD), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Andean Development Corporation (CAF), International Monetary Fund (IMF). , Novo Development Bank (NDB), United Nations Organization (UN), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), International Labor Organization ( ILO), World Health Organization (WHO) and World Trade Organization (OMC).

Brazil intends to host more than 100 working group meetings and nearly 20 ministerial meetings, culminating in a summit of State and Government chefs, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, on November 18 and 19, 2024.

The G20 members are 19 countries with the world’s major economies: United States, China, Germany, Russia, England, France, Japan, Italy, India, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Korea do Sul, Indonesia, Mexico , Turkey, but the European Union and the African Union.
