Queen Camilla will wear Queen Elizabeth’s coronation robes

In one week, Queen Camilla (75) and King Charles (74) will be crowned in a solemn coronation ceremony.

On Saturday, new images were released of the coronation robes the royal couple will wear during the ceremony on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. It writes People.

As per tradition, the King and Queen will each wear two different robes during a coronation: the Robe of State and the Robe of Treasure.

Worn by former kings and queens

The robes of State are worn on arrival at Westminster Abbey and the Robes of Estate are worn on departure and are traditionally more personalized.

The new images show the Royal School of Needleworks embroidery team preserving The King’s Robe of State, which Charles will wear upon his arrival at Coronation and Camilla’s Robe of Estate, which will be worn after he is crowned.

The King’s Country robes are made of crimson velvet and were worn by King George VI, King Charles’ grandfather, at his coronation in 1937.

Originally made for Queen Elizabeth

For the second robe of his coronation ceremony, King Charles will change into the King’s Royal Robe, made of purple silk velvet embroidered with gold. It was also worn by King George VI in 1937.

Queen Camilla will wear the Robe of State originally made for Queen Elizabeth, mother of King Charles, to her coronation in 1953. In addition, a new Robe of Estate has been made for Queen Camilla. It has purple velvet that matches the King’s Robe of Estate.
